by Murray Eskdale
Shrugging off the constraints of man made structures that seized
the artist's imagination in the past, Eskdale strives to capture
the essence of New Zealand - the feeling and atmosphere of the
country that captured his heart and became his home.
Although a landscape exhibition, Eskdale stays true to his
roots and does not abandon mankind's imprint cpompletely.
Contrasting details - a sign, a fence, a road - transform what
could be generic landscapes into striking 'imagescapes'.
Simple and non-specific in location, the pieces avoid New
Zealand 'hotspots'. They are captured with a thoughtful eye,
finding textures and colours representitive of the landscape as a
whole rather than just the location of the photograph.
All works are printed on archival matte paper and framed by
Murray at Mint Gallery.
